Based on her considerable experience with international investment law and policy, Anna Joubin-Bret has developed a practice of:

  3. -Alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and conciliation, of investor-State disputes.

Until recently she was a partner with Foley Hoag LLP in Paris specializing in representation of sovereign States in international investment arbitration.

Prior to 2011, she served as senior Legal Advisor for the Division on Investment, Technology and Enterprise Development of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In this capacity, she managed the advisory work program on international investment policies and law issues as well as the technical assistance program on international investment frameworks. During her tenure at UNCTAD, Anna Joubin-Bret assisted countries, governments, State entities and private investors in the formulation of policies and frameworks as well as the management of investor-State disputes. She has advised the governments of Belarus, Bolivia, Botswana, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Egypt, Ghana, the Lao PDR, Morocco, Peru, Namibia, South Africa, Syria, Thailand and Turkey on investment policies, investment treaties, investment laws and investment arbitration and prevention.

She has edited and authored seminal research and publications on international investment law, notably the UNCTAD Series on Issues in International Investment Agreements(the IIA Series and the Sequels) and contributed to UNCTAD’s research on key issues of investment promotion, protection and liberalization, including the World Investment Report, Investment Guides and Investment Policy Reviews.

  2. -Director, Export Division – Pomagalski S.A., (France). Pomagalski designs, markets, installs and maintains cable transportation systems (cable cars, funiculars, gondola lifts, chairlifts, ski lifts) and automated people movers (in cooperation with OTIS) (1988 - 1994)

  3. -General counsel for Pomagalski S.A., in charge of corporate law, commercial and license agreements, intellectual property rights and project financing (1986 - 1988)

  4. -General counsel for the KIS Group, (France).  KIS was world leader in photo-finishing equipment. Stationed in Grenoble, Singapore and Sidney. She was also in charge of the logistical support to the French Kiss team for the America’s Cup race in Perth (Australia) (1984 - 1986)

  5. -Counsel in the legal department of Merlin Gerin (electrical equipment manufacturer part of the Schneider Group), in the international taxation unit (1983 - 1984)
